Terms of Service — LiveSpend

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of LiveSpend ("LiveSpend", "we", "us", or "our"), an independent personal project operated under the name LiveSpend in Canada. By accessing or using LiveSpend, you agree to these Terms.

1) Description of Service

LiveSpend is a budgeting and transaction tracking tool that helps users monitor spending based on bank transaction notification emails.

LiveSpend operates by reading transaction notification emails through the Gmail API with user authorization.

After initial sender/domain and subject-line filtering, LiveSpend may use automated language model service providers to help determine whether a candidate email is a transaction alert and, if so, extract the merchant name, amount, and transaction date.

LiveSpend does not connect directly to your bank account, does not access your banking portal, and does not initiate financial transactions of any kind.

2) No Financial Advice

LiveSpend is provided for informational and budgeting purposes only. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

Any insights, categorizations, summaries, or analyses generated by LiveSpend are automated and may contain errors. You remain solely responsible for verifying your financial information against official bank records.

3) Accuracy and Data Limitations

LiveSpend relies entirely on transaction notification emails sent by financial institutions. If an email is delayed, modified, incomplete, or not delivered, LiveSpend may not reflect accurate data.

Automated classifiers and language models may misidentify emails or extract incomplete or incorrect transaction details.

LiveSpend does not guarantee:

  • Real-time accuracy
  • Complete transaction coverage
  • Correct merchant categorization
  • Error-free operation

4) Gmail API Access

If you connect your Gmail account, you authorize LiveSpend to access your Gmail data using Google's Gmail API with read-only permissions.

By enabling Gmail sync, you also authorize LiveSpend to use automated service providers, including language model providers, for the limited purpose of classifying pre-filtered candidate emails and extracting transaction details for display in the Service.

LiveSpend:

  • Does not send emails on your behalf.
  • Does not modify your mailbox.
  • Extracts relevant transaction data and discards unrelated email content.
  • May use automated service providers to classify candidate emails and extract merchant name, amount, and transaction date.

Gmail access can be revoked at any time through your Google account settings.

5) Data Security

LiveSpend takes reasonable measures to protect your data. Gmail refresh tokens are encrypted at rest.

However, no system can guarantee absolute security. By using LiveSpend, you acknowledge and accept inherent internet risks.

6) User Responsibilities

You agree not to:

  • Use LiveSpend for unlawful purposes
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or disrupt the platform
  • Abuse API connections or automation systems

You remain solely responsible for safeguarding your email and financial account security.

7) Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LiveSpend shall not be liable for:

  • Financial losses
  • Missed payments
  • Incorrect budgeting decisions
  • Data inaccuracies
  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

LiveSpend is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind.

8) Account Suspension or Termination

LiveSpend reserves the right to suspend or terminate access at any time for misuse, abuse, security concerns, or violation of these Terms.

9) Changes to the Service

LiveSpend may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time. Future paid or freemium plans may be introduced.

10) Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada.
