Terms of Service | LiveSpend

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of LiveSpend ("LiveSpend", "we", "us", or "our"), an independent personal project operated under the name LiveSpend in Canada. By accessing or using LiveSpend, you agree to these Terms.

1) Description of Service

LiveSpend is a spending tracking and analysis service that helps users monitor spending using transaction notification emails imported with their permission and transactions they enter manually.

Depending on your platform and plan, LiveSpend features may include live spending totals, spending sources or card nicknames, spending targets and cycle settings, automatic categories and rules, trends and forecasts, recurring-expense tracking and price-change detection, spending archetypes, weekly insights, and customizable notifications.

If you connect Gmail, LiveSpend reads transaction notification emails through the Gmail API with your authorization. Gmail connection is optional, and you may use manual transaction entry without connecting Gmail.

LiveSpend may use automated systems and service providers, including OpenAI, for limited user-facing features such as parsing certain bank alerts, suggesting transaction categories, and generating spending insights. Additional details are provided in the Privacy Policy.

LiveSpend does not connect directly to your bank account, does not access your banking portal, and does not initiate financial transactions of any kind.

2) No Financial Advice

LiveSpend is provided for informational and spending-awareness purposes only. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

Any insights, categorizations, summaries, or analyses generated by LiveSpend are automated and may contain errors. You remain solely responsible for verifying your financial information against official bank records.

3) Accuracy and Data Limitations

Some transaction data is derived from notification emails sent by financial institutions, while manually entered transaction data is based on the information you provide. If an email is delayed, modified, incomplete, or not delivered, or if manually entered information is incomplete or incorrect, LiveSpend may not reflect accurate or complete data.

Automated parsers, classifiers, language models, and rules may misidentify emails, extract incomplete or incorrect transaction details, assign an incorrect category, or produce incomplete or inaccurate analyses.

Recurring-expense tracking, price-change detection, forecasts, targets, spending archetypes, categorizations, summaries, and insights are informational estimates based on available data. They do not confirm that a merchant subscription remains active, that a subscription has been cancelled, that a future charge will occur, or what amount will ultimately be charged.

Email, browser, and push notifications may be delayed, interrupted, duplicated, or not delivered. LiveSpend notifications are not a substitute for official bank statements, merchant communications, payment-due notices, purchase or refund confirmations, or cancellation confirmations.

LiveSpend does not guarantee:

  • Real-time accuracy
  • Complete transaction coverage
  • Correct merchant categorization
  • The accuracy or timing of forecasts, recurring-expense information, insights, or notifications
  • Error-free operation

4) Gmail API Access

If you connect your Gmail account, you authorize LiveSpend to access your Gmail data using Google's Gmail API with read-only permissions.

By enabling Gmail sync, you also authorize LiveSpend to use automated service providers, including OpenAI, for the limited user-facing purposes described in the Privacy Policy, including classifying certain authenticated bank-alert emails and extracting transaction details for display in the Service.

LiveSpend:

  • Does not send emails on your behalf.
  • Does not modify your mailbox.
  • May temporarily check a newly added message before determining whether it is a bank alert LiveSpend can process, and does not persist unrelated email content.
  • May use automated service providers to classify candidate emails and extract merchant name, amount, and transaction date.

Gmail access can be revoked at any time through your Google account settings.

5) Subscriptions and Billing

A. Free and Pro tiers

LiveSpend offers a free tier and a paid Pro subscription. The free tier provides core spending tracking features. The Pro tier provides additional features as described on our website.

B. Billing

Pro subscriptions are recurring subscriptions. The price, currency, and billing period applicable to your subscription will be shown at the time of purchase.

Subscriptions purchased through the iOS app use Apple's StoreKit in-app purchase system, are processed by Apple, and are subject to Apple's billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund policies. You can manage these subscriptions through your Apple Account. Subscriptions purchased through the LiveSpend website are processed by Stripe. By subscribing through the website, you authorize LiveSpend and Stripe to charge the payment method you provide on a recurring basis.

C. Automatic renewal

Pro subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. Subscriptions purchased through the iOS app can be managed or cancelled through your Apple Account. Subscriptions purchased through the LiveSpend website can be cancelled through your account settings or the Stripe customer portal.

D. Cancellation

If you cancel your Pro subscription, you will retain access to Pro features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will revert to the free tier. Your transaction data will not be deleted upon cancellation. Cancelling your LiveSpend account does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through Apple; you must manage that subscription through your Apple Account.

E. Refunds

Refunds for subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple's refund policies. Payments for subscriptions purchased through the LiveSpend website are non-refundable, except where required by law. If you cancel, no refund will be issued for the remaining portion of the current billing period. You can cancel at any time to prevent future charges.

F. Pricing changes

LiveSpend reserves the right to change subscription pricing at any time. For subscriptions purchased through the iOS app, Apple administers price-change notices and obtains subscriber consent where required by Apple's policies or applicable law. For subscriptions purchased through the LiveSpend website, LiveSpend or Stripe will provide notice and obtain consent where required by applicable law. Unless an existing price is expressly preserved, price changes will apply no earlier than a future renewal after any required notice or consent.

G. Payment failures

If a payment fails, LiveSpend may suspend access to Pro features until the payment issue is resolved. Apple or Stripe, as applicable, may attempt to retry the charge in accordance with its policies.

6) Third-Party Payment Processing and iOS App Terms

A. Payment processing

Subscriptions purchased through the iOS app use Apple's StoreKit in-app purchase system and are processed by Apple. Subscriptions purchased through the LiveSpend website are processed by Stripe. LiveSpend does not collect or store your credit card number, CVV, or full payment credentials. Your use of Apple's in-app purchase services is subject to Apple's applicable terms and privacy policies. Your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe's Terms of Service and Stripe's Privacy Policy.

B. iOS app license

These Terms are a service agreement governing your LiveSpend account and your use of the Service. They do not replace Apple's end-user license terms. If you download or use the LiveSpend iOS app, your license to use the iOS app is also governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which applies in addition to these Terms.

7) Data Security

LiveSpend takes reasonable measures to protect your data. Gmail refresh tokens are encrypted at rest.

However, no system can guarantee absolute security. By using LiveSpend, you acknowledge and accept inherent internet risks.

8) User Responsibilities

You agree not to:

  • Use LiveSpend for unlawful purposes
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or disrupt the platform
  • Abuse API connections or automation systems

You remain solely responsible for safeguarding your email and financial account security.

9) Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LiveSpend shall not be liable for:

  • Financial losses
  • Missed payments
  • Incorrect spending decisions
  • Data inaccuracies
  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

LiveSpend is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind.

10) Account Suspension or Termination

LiveSpend reserves the right to suspend or terminate access at any time for misuse, abuse, security concerns, or violation of these Terms.

Suspension, termination, or deletion of your LiveSpend account does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through Apple. You must manage or cancel that subscription through your Apple Account. A subscription purchased through the LiveSpend website may be cancelled through LiveSpend or the Stripe customer portal. Refunds remain subject to Section 5E, the applicable payment provider's policies, and applicable law.

If LiveSpend discontinues paid access for reasons unrelated to your violation of these Terms, LiveSpend will either continue providing the applicable paid features through the end of the current paid billing period or provide or arrange any refund, credit, or other remedy required by the applicable payment provider's policies or applicable law.

11) Changes to the Service

LiveSpend may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time. Subscription plans and features included in free and Pro tiers may change. During a paid billing period, LiveSpend will not materially reduce the paid features provided for that period except where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, service integrity, or circumstances outside LiveSpend's reasonable control. If LiveSpend discontinues paid access, Section 10 applies. Subscription pricing changes are governed by Section 5F.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada.
