The short answer
National Bank handles pending activity differently from several other banks. It says a transaction marked Pending has not yet been billed, even if it is already included in the displayed balance. The total alone may therefore not tell you whether a purchase has finished processing.
If a payment has not changed what you see, check the payment method. National Bank describes a payment made with Transfer between accounts from a National Bank account as instant, while other payment methods can involve processing time.
What to check first
Open the National Bank credit card details instead of relying only on the balance shown in the Overview. The transaction status and payment method provide the missing context.
- Look for Pending beneath the transaction amount in the National Bank app or in the Date column online.
- Remember that National Bank says a pending transaction may already be included in the balance even though it has not been billed.
- Check the current statement separately. A statement does not change after its billing period closes.
- For a payment, confirm whether you used Transfer between accounts, pre-authorized debit, or a payment from another institution.
What Pending means at National Bank
At National Bank, Pending means the purchase has not yet been processed and billed to the credit card account. The status disappears when the transaction is charged to the account.
Because the pending amount may already be included in the displayed balance, do not add it a second time when estimating what you owe. Also wait until the transaction is charged before disputing it, since its final status or amount can still change.
If your National Bank payment has not updated
National Bank says its Transfer between accounts feature pays a National Bank credit card balance instantly when you select the card as the receiving account. If you used that method and the balance still looks wrong, confirm the transfer details and contact the bank rather than repeating it.
A payment sent through another institution or a different method may have processing time before National Bank receives it. Confirm that the money left the source account and allow enough time before the due date.
When to contact National Bank
For a recognizable pending purchase, wait until its status changes before disputing it. If the final posted amount is wrong, contact the merchant first and keep your proof of purchase.
If you do not recognize the transaction, National Bank advises temporarily blocking the card and calling immediately. Contact the bank as well if an internal transfer does not appear as expected or a payment remains missing.
How LiveSpend shows National Bank spending sooner
LiveSpend can use eligible National Bank email alerts for transactions above an amount you choose. When a recognized alert reaches the Gmail inbox connected to LiveSpend, it can enter a running credit card spending total without waiting for the transaction status to finish processing.
This gives you recent purchases, categories, budgets, weekly insights, spending pace, and a forecast without sharing your National Bank login. For a joint credit card, National Bank says only the primary cardholder receives its alerts, so the connected Gmail inbox must receive those messages.
The alert threshold and delivery still limit what LiveSpend sees. It does not replace National Bank's balance, pending status, statement, payment records, or fraud and dispute process.
